Stage Two Underway
Stage Two began in early September and focuses on developing the 6,500m² vessel maintenance hardstand area.
Before excavation, extensive soil testing confirmed historic contamination within the site’s reclamation soils. To ensure proper environmental management, 10,000 tonnes of soil were excavated and removed throughout September, most sent to Eves Valley Landfill, with specialist materials transported to a Class 1 landfill outside the region.
The Port’s strategy for the entire precinct is to clean away historic contamination with these soils best managed at a landfill facility that is setup to contain and manage such soils.
